This small microwave offers consumers 600-Watts of power and 8 automatic settings, which is more than enough for regular microwave use. The only thing that consumers need to watch out for is that it does take longer to cook, so an extra minute or two will need to be added to most cook times. If following recipes for microwave cooking bear in mind that the times on the recipes are often based on a 1000-Watt microwave.
Pros:
- Small cube shape design – I really love the look of this microwave; in fact, it doesn’t even look like a microwave at all. The unique design allows the microwave to blend in with anything, including in an office setting. The cube shape is due to the magnetron being located in the top of the machine rather than the right side.
- Automatic Settings – With this microwave there are 8 automatic settings to choose from. With these automatic settings, reheating food is simple. No need to worry about setting different power levels because there is only one power level, which is 100%. However, this also means that defrosting food is not a good idea in the microwave because chances are the food will cook rather than defrost.
- No Numerical Pad – Although many people think of this as a con I find it to be a plus, although it took some getting used to. When setting the time you simply push a button to add time in certain increments, which can be 10 minutes to 1 minute at a time. Not having the numerical pad is nice because there is no pushing the wrong numbers on accident. For example, when trying to enter in 1 minute, accidentally adding 10 minutes to the cook time.
- Easy to clean – I love how easy this microwave oven is to clean. All I have to do to keep it clean is wipe down the front and sides of the unit. Even with the unit being black, I still don’t have a hard time keeping it clean. In addition, not having the numerical keypad there are less than half the fingerprints one gets on a full sized microwave.
Cons:
- No Window – The hardest thing for me to get used to is not having a window to look into while I am cooking. I never realized how much I actually watched my food cooking in the microwave until we bought this model. However, it is only a minor problem and one you get used to rather quickly.
The Sharp Half Pint is the perfect microwave for people who have limited kitchen space or need a small microwave for on the go. Even though it is only a 600-Watt microwave, it will still reheat an entire dinner plate. The higher price tag is also worth it because these things are true workhorses; they last for years on end.
