Magic Chef MCD990R Red Countertop Microwave Review

For consumers who are looking for a great countertop microwave that will cook faster than their previous model the Magic Chef .9 Cu Ft Countertop Microwave Red MCD990R is the perfect choice. While many people might be put off by the bright red color of the microwave, I found it to be perfect because it matched other appliances that I already had in my kitchen, such as my toaster and coffee pot. The picture of the microwave is somewhat deceptive because it doesn’t show the true color, the microwave isn’t nearly as bright as the picture makes it seem.

 

One of my favorite things about this microwave is that it will fit just about anywhere in my kitchen. The microwave itself measures 15.3 by 19.5 by 11.6 inches, so that should give everybody an idea on where it will be able to fit inside the kitchen. The one place that it cannot be placed is over the range or into a cabinet because it is not a built in microwave and needs to have the proper ventilation in order to work properly. Pros:

• One Touch Cooking Menus – One feature that I really enjoy with this microwave is the one touch cooking menus. This model comes with 3 preprogrammed options. All I have to do is push the right button and the microwave does the rest.
• Auto Cook Menus – In addition to the one touch cooking programs this microwave also comes with 5 different auto cook menus. The auto cook menus to choose from include beverages, soup, baked potato, frozen vegetables, and fresh vegetables. I will have to say that I have used each of these settings quite successfully and I am always amazed at how quickly things cook.
• Auto Defrost – One thing that some smaller microwaves lack is an auto defrost feature, many times you simply have to adjust the power level to defrost any type of food. This microwave comes with 3 different auto defrost options that allow me to easily defrost meat, poultry and fish based upon pounds.
• Can add time in 30-second increments – Some microwaves come with a button that allows you to add one minute to cooking time without having to interrupt the cooking. This microwave comes with the ability to add 30 seconds to the cooking time. All one has to do is press the button the correct number of times, based upon how much time needs to be added.

 

Cons:

• Fingerprints are hard to get rid of – The color of the microwave and its shiny gloss look allow fingerprints to easily show up. In order to keep the fingerprints off the machine I have to polish and buff the microwave similar to how I clean my car, so it takes a lot of work to keep it clean.

 

The Magic Chef .9 Cu Ft Countertop Microwave is perfect for anybody who needs to add some color to a small room. The red color of this microwave is similar to that of woman’s nail polish; it also has the same shine. Being able to add a splash of color to an otherwise dark room is a nice touch, but what really matters is how hot it gets, which means faster cooking times.
